More About TNE

General

The TNE platform is configurable and manages detailed network and network connectivity information for plant, permits, configuration, regulations, and usage in a smart way. For example, tunnels, lighting, guardrails, track gauge, waterway navigational aids, signs, signals, and culverts.

Benefits

The flexibility and configurability in the TNE product allows work with, for example, master data to be streamlined. Data can be collected, customized, and used in several different contexts and applications, both internally within an organization as well as in collaboration between different organizations. TNE creates increased benefits and security as data integrity and quality is assured and furthermore is continuously updated as the existing data is modified.

Information Model

TNE is built on open standards from Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), ISO/TC 211, and INSPIRE. The model conforms to OpenTNF (www.opentnf.org) and RailTopoModel (www.railtopomodel.org). TNE also supports the Swedish standard for road and railway information, and the national road databases in Norway and Sweden.

TNE can manage:

  • The transport network topology with 3D-geometry, temporal validity, and linear reference system (primary and secondary).
  • Features and objects with attributes, temporal validity, geographical and/or linear position.
  • Data catalogues (object type libraries) with object types, value domains, and valid values.
  • Metadata about transaction updates, permissions, and subscriptions etc.

Tools and functions

TNE includes tools and interfaces to validate, store, analyze, customize, and expose data. In addition, the platform contains powerful functions for data processing as well as the generation of input for high performance route and distance calculations. There are also extra functions/features in the platform which can be used for different types of quality control.

An organization can configure its own data catalogue where the content and business rules are defined according to the businesses’ actual information needs. Authorized users can dynamically create or remove data types as and when the need arises.

Through a user interface (UI) different types of users can register errors and/or deviations in network-related data. Registered issues can be categorized and managed by designated administrators. In addition, users can, via a simple web interface, gather data to update proposals for network and network-related information.

Integration

TNE includes state-of-the-art RESTFul service interfaces for integration with other applications and systems. The platform has open and standardized interfaces that facilitate the integration and collaboration between different stakeholders. This enables for example regular and automatic synchronization with the national road databases in Norway and Sweden.

To enable effective functions, integrations and data exchange the TNE platform supports and uses the open standard OpenTNF (www.opentnf.org).

Architecture and Technology

TNE is a modular, open, and configurable platform consisting of one or more databases, an application server, and a number of applications.

The core implementation is a configurable and scalable application server with services such as import, export, validation, monitoring, subscriptions, and monitoring.

TNE can be used with any kind of database management systems (DBMS) e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Spatial and PostgreSQL/PostGIS. The storage model allows integration with, and has very good support for, GIS platforms such as ESRI ArcGIS, FME from Safe Software, and QGIS.
